A $10 box of business cards started it all
How it started
New beginnings. A home garage. A lot of hard work. The story behind the shop.
In 1988, Mark and Cindy lost everything they owned in a fire at their rented house. They planned to rent again, but friends encouraged them to buy a home instead.
With a fresh start in front of them, they opened their own transmission repair company and ran it from the garage of their new home. A $10 box of business cards and a Yellow Pages ad helped get the word out.
They worked hard, earned the trust of local drivers and steadily grew the business.
When Mark found a good opportunity to buy commercial property, they took the chance. The shop moved to its current location just off I-5 at Exit 149, where it has operated for more than 20 years.
The shop today

What makes us different
We do not quote a guess.
A transmission problem cannot be priced responsibly before the vehicle is inspected. General Transmission diagnoses the cause first, then explains the findings and the cost.

No phone quotes based on assumptions. We will not guess at what your vehicle's problem might be.
Every vehicle is evaluated individually. A proper inspection comes before a price quote.
You hear the results before work begins. We diagnose the problem, call you and explain the price.
Help getting the vehicle to the shop. When needed, we can arrange pickup or towing to our service center.
Trained technicians and focused work. Repairs are completed carefully and as quickly as the job allows.
You pay for what the vehicle actually needed. We bill only for the parts required for the repair.
We stand behind the repair. Our workmanship is guaranteed.
Our commitment
The business has always been about more than cars.
Fair and honest, because that is how we want to be treated.
Mark and Cindy made that decision a long time ago, and it has shaped the business ever since.
More than three decades of owning a small business and raising three children brought plenty of ups and downs. The support of neighbors and customers throughout the Pacific Northwest helped the family and the shop continue to grow.
Supporting the community that supported the shop.
General Transmission sponsors local soccer teams and donates vehicles to worthy causes.
During the holidays, the team puts together baskets of food and other essentials for local people in need.
Responsible handling of shop materials.
The shop recycles as much as possible, including scrap metal from transmission work.
Used transmission fluid and other shop materials are sent for proper recycling or disposal.
Straight from local drivers
Service people remember.
Thank you for considering us for your transmission repair. We look forward to hearing from you. Mark and Cindy
